Hair is women's crowning glory. It helps them put on the best lift they can give their face that fits with the facial type. Even though it is not a typical issue, hair loss in women may also happen due to some hereditary and environmental causes. The medical term for baldness is alopecia. It got its name from the Greek name of fox, "alopex." Foxes are observed to have mange or thinning of fur when distressed with skin problems.

Alopecia can be permanent or temporary, depending on the pattern occurring. Androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of hair loss that happens to both men and women. This pattern is a combination of androgens (the male hormones) and genetics. Alopecia areata is another form of hair thinning that normally grows back. The most common hair loss experience for many women is when their hair thins after giving birth or after having fever, weight loss and stress. This is called telogen effluvium. Finally, traction alopecia, another form of balding, happens due to a particular hairtsyle like tight braids or ponytails.

There are fairly a couple of factors to sudden hair loss in women. Hormone-related issues is one; thyroid gland problems, is another; surgery and radiation therapy, like chemo are another big factors that contribute to baldness; while stress is probably the most common reason. Some women in their early 30's experience this problem, due to a genetic pattern occuring or by a hair chemical treatment. Generally, women begin to have alopecia in their fifty's.

Age is one common cause of hair loss in women over 50. Aging causes a lot of bodily changes to a woman like, menopausal and change in hormonal patterns. Sometimes sickness comes due to these changes and may cause further damage on the scalp. At this age, the scalp is no longer supple to produce more hair. Hair loss in women at their 50's is normally in patches.

The type of sudden hair loss in women that are due to sickness, childbirth, and radiation therapy do not necessarily need treatment as the hair normally grows back once the medical condition stabilizes. Head coverings like hat and wig may be temporarily used to cover baldness. Hair loss caused by age, hormones and genes can be treated with topical or oral medications. Although not a direct treatment to baldness, hair transplants can be considered as a fixed solution to permanent baldness, especially if the issue is significantly affecting a woman. This procedure is costly and painful, but the outcomes are usually permanent.

There's just no stopping the growing interest in hair loss in women. The condition is real and therefore a hot topic to tackle. Because so many people are talking about it though, there is also a proliferation of inaccurate information. This makes it distressing for real sufferers to look for data they can trust. Before you believe anything you read about female hair loss, there are couple of myths that need to be corrected.

#1- There is only one cause that can be blamed for the condition.

The male condition is easy to figure out. For men it all boils down to genes and hormones. This is partly true for women as well. They may lose a lot of hair once their estrogen levels go low for one reason or another. There are many other possible reasons for their hair loss though. Aside from hormonal issues, women lose strands too due to severe ailments and distressing physical and emotional situations. Anything that can severely stress the mind and body can degrade hair growth.

#2- Old women are the only ones at risk.

Women in general don't end up with wide bald areas on the scalp. What they experience is often just diffuse thinning. This is one reason why elder women may have wispy locks. It is not true however that only the old ones are prone to this condition. There are also some young individuals that experience it. These are the ones who are most likely ill with a severe disease or are experiencing hormonal issues. Those who have just given birth for instance are likely to see more falling strands than usual because of the changes in estrogen supply.

#3- Hair styling can be the reason for hair shedding.

There is some truth to too much styling damaging the quality of hair. Those who frequent salons may notice their strands growing stiffer or more prone to breakage. These however are not significant hair loss factors. The only possible styling factor that can cause a form of hair loss is tight styling. Braids, corn rolls and pony tails can uproot clumps of hair and can cause the kind of scarring that will make hair growth difficult.

#4- The condition can be completely stopped.

You can help yourself grow healthier hair if the causes of its loss are related to illness and stress. You might not be able to do much though if the cause is hormonal in nature. If you qualify for hormone replacement therapy, you might get your old locks back but there are individuals who aren't good candidates for it. You might also opt to take minoxidil but you can't expect dramatic results out of it. You can't take more than a very small amount because huge amount aren't safe for female intake. Researchers are still clearly out there looking for better solutions to the problem.

Hair loss in women is definitely a hot topic. You should be careful about the kind of information that you read though. You would want to get only the right facts.

3 Solutions To Help You Combat Frontal Hair Loss

Hair loss, in different forms, continues to plague both men and women, with a receding hairline or frontal hair loss being the most common type. This condition becomes more prevalent with the passing of age; in excess of seventy percent of the world's male population is affected by this condition to some extent.

Research, over a period of time, has attributed different causes to this problem, and the one that
is looked upon as the most common cause of frontal hair loss is a condition referred to in medical parlance as Androgenic Alopecia. This progressive condition works in the thinning of hair along the frontal hair line as well as atop the head in men; and with women, the hair loss is spread across more evenly (which is why frontal hair loss is more apparent in men).

What triggers this condition is a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and its presence works in the inhibition of the follicles' proper functioning. In combating this form of hair loss, addressing the body's DHT levels becomes imperative. Given below are some ideas that can help you with your receding hair line.

Minoxidil/Finasteride:
These are two drug based treatments that have received the go-ahead by the American FDA, and are said to work equally well with male as well as female pattern baldness. While Finasteride is said to inhibit the production of DHT, the way Minoxidil works in not exactly clear (this drug was first introduced to combat high blood pressure). With both these lines of treatment, the condition is known to return after the treatment is stopped, so it does become an ongoing affair.

The Medication Route:
Two drugs are commonly used in medication products that claim to help with frontal hair loss, and these include Finasteride and Minoxidil. Finasteride is believed to help in inhibiting DHT production, thereby aiding in optimum follicle functioning. How Minoxidil works is still not very clear in respect to its hair loss fighting properties as this was a drug that was first launched to help fight high blood pressure.

Surgical Procedures:
There are two common surgical currently used to treat frontal hair loss. One is where hair is extracted from a region on the scalp that is resistant to DHT, and is then implanted in the region that is affected. In the other, a given section (flap) of the scalp is turned around in a manner which helps it cover the area that is affected. However, with the latter, significant scarring can be expected.

As you can see, there is help at hand for people who suffer from frontal hair loss, and this is not
something that should be looked upon as the end of the world. All you need to figure out is the path you wish to follow, and then let time run its course.
